Hello CGN,

My P226 is barely one month old and the front sight won’t shine in the dark anymore. The gun was always handled carefully. As a casual shooter, I know that these night sights are just icing on the cake and that I will probably never need them, but that still sucks considering the price they ask. Is it common? Anyone know who does the warranty repairs for Sig in Canada? How long will it takes?

Regards,
Z

I don't know what you have but my Trijicon's have been glowing strong on my G17 for 6+yrs.
If you shooting in well lit ranges I wouldn't sweat it.....

A night sight does not fade so quickly on a new gun. My guess is the tritium vial in the sight fell out or broke. I would discuss this with the store you bought it from or call Trijicon directly. Trijicon USA won’t be very helpful due to ITAR but they may be able to point you in the right direction for Canadian help. If it’s a SIGlite, then talk to your store as I’m not sure who makes it for SIG.
Tritium sights last about 15 yrs but you do notice a dimming past the 10 year mark or so.

Yea it sucks. The glow was similar to the rear sights when I got the gun. Is it possible that the vial broke because I shot the gun in cold weather (-5 celcius)?

I will check with the store.

Take a careful look at the front sight dot . If it looks black and a bit hollow, then the vial got knocked out or is broken. Some have a white ring around the tritium. If the white ring is still there, then the vial is likely broken.

Cold weather has nothing to do with it. probably not installed properly

The front sight should look like this:

You can either contact MD Charlton for warranty work or order a new set of X-ray sights from wherever you got the gun.

Thank you for your replies everyone. I checked with a loupe and didn’t see anything wrong. Off to the seller it goes.

Tritium vials must be handled with care. I've seen two (Beretta 92FS) factory-installed vials broken when the impatient owner tried to drift his sights (using a steel punch and a big hammer).

Dave Dawson emphasizes the need to properly fit sights to the slides' dovetail, with a file, rather than resorting to brute force.
