I was getting light primer strikes with my Sig P226 which I initially thought was due to going from CCI primers to S&B. The gun started misfiring on CCIs too so I thought I'd investigate the breechblock, which I've never tried removing before. Sure enough the block was absolutely filthy and I suspect the light strikes were due to the amount of crud surrounding the firing pin.
When I removed the double concentric roll pins securing the block to the slide they fell apart. Apparently it's fairly common for these to break and Sig recommends that they are sacrificial I.e. They should be replaced every time they're taken out.
So, some questions for you Sig experts out there:
1) How often do you remove your breechblock to clean it? I certainly need to clean mine more often than I have been (read: never).
2) Do you reuse the pin?
3) have you tried a non-Sig pin? I've read that Sig went to a coiled pin (aka snail pin) in later models, I'm thinking of getting one from Fastenal and trying it.
4) Does anyone have a spare pin they could sell me?
Thanks for looking guys, and thanks in advance for any info.
