P226 - too many models!

I have not seen a chart floating around on the Web anywhere.

I have been very fortunate to try a few P226 models. Some now have the E2 grips I see--I'd avoid that, but that is personal preference. Both Legion models are excellent. Other favorites would be the Stainless Elite, TacOps and the Dark Elite(looks like it is now called the Enhanced Elite, but now has the E2 grips, which can be swapped out of course). The Elite SAO is also great I am sure, but I have not personally sampled one.

well, I guess my question is sorta null, as my intention is to actually purchase the .22LR variant.

however, if I could 'udnerstand' the hodgepodge of models, I might go with one and then just get the kit, so I benefit from whatever optimization the center fire one came with. :p

Worst part is SIG even changes the design of parts. So depending on what year your P226 was built will depend on what part you need to order.

4 types of slides
2 types of trigger bars
3 types of extractors
2 types of firing pins...

It's like any other retail sales application, the more models they have the more shelf space they can take up ;).

Although I'm perfectly fine with it, love SIGs :).
