Hey all,

I'm wondering what would a good factory load be for a Walther P38.

I'm trying to narrow it down here for safety for the pistol not necessarily the BANG. Now I know 115gr FMJs would be the best for the action (like some winchester white box), but what is the most a WWII P38 will safely fire without having to worry about damaging it? Just looking for the grain size on the bullet as they're 9mm and it's cheap.

Thanks

A buddy shot some Ruko ammo in his and parts flew everywhere.Luckily he found them all and no damage to gun..........Harold

Both the P38 and the P08 need to be loaded to pressures that are in line with their operations and strengths.

North American loads are pretty tame in comparison to some European/offshore loads.

Both need loads of at least 1300fps to function reliably. Any loads that generate less than 28,000cup but no more than 30,000cup, should be safe and function the actions reliably.

Be extremely careful with surplus ammunition. A lot of it was made to operate smgs and loaded with heavier bullets at higher pressures.

Even the venerable p35 Browning Hi Powers can have some serious issues with that stuff. Not only that, a lot of the surplus stuff that shows up is corrosive.

That stuff is more than likely milsurp and intended for smgs. It could be OK but it's your pistol.

If you want to risk it, it's your choice.
