I need some help.. are the ejector on WW2 issue spring loaded or not? I know my post war p-38 is spring loaded but the war issue is either not or I'm missing a spring. The reason I am asking is that during field stripping, the extractor falls and hangs loosely and would like to take action on it if necessary.

Thank you in advance.

WW II P-38 ejectors are not spring loaded. They come up to the top when the mag is loaded into the firearm! I've actually never seen one that was. Can you take a photo and send it to me.

Thanks m39, the only issue that I could possibly imagine with it is if someone tried to shigle shot it with no mag in it. Otherwise, very nice little pistol.

I'm confused. The extractor hangs loosely after field stripping? Did you mean ejector?

For sure the extractor has a spring and a detent.

Extractor is, ejector isn't

After firing in the chamber, the extractor which is spring loaded [the ejector hook sit in the case groove] pulls the case out of the chamber to the rear where the case then hits the ejector which kicks the case out.
The extractor is spring loaded, but the ejector is not.
