ok its time to change my recoil pad thinkin of going with a decelerator
any good ? what kind of recoil take-up can i expect if i am shooting a 303 brit
right now the pad i have on makes my 303 feel like arnold is hitting my in the shoulder with a lead baseball bat fullforce and leave lots of bruising
i dont wanna spend a fortune a pad but if the pachmyer is gonna help and make the rifle comfortable to shoot for my self and my wife i'll put out the 40 bucks for it

They work, no worries there, a bit overboard for a 303 but it will certainly work.
Measure the butt stock for LOP that will work for both you and your finest.
Take into account the pad thickness. A mouse hand sander works great, use thr 60 grit red paper, let the tool do the work, after you get it where its near flush with the wood switch up for 220 grit. Follow the lines of the stock not to make it look weird. For this just take a look at other factory firearms to understand what I mean. The pad comes in 3 sizes I think, pick the one thats a bit larger than what you need.Oh if not refinishing the stock, tape it along where the pad meets wood, and be careful not to sand the wood, this is easy to do.

Agree with Frank. If you're worried about it, most smiths charge $80 for the pad plus installation and it will look factory when they're done.

The decelerator is arguably the best pad on the market. I put one on all my magnum rifles where you really see the difference.

Hey Signguy, I have just the beast for you in my little parts tickle trunk. It is new, never mounted and open vented sides, 3/4" thick +/-
Send me a pm if you are interested, it sure won't cost you no $40, that's for sure!
It should easily take the sting out of a 303.
Cheers,
Noel

They work well, the one and only 303 I ever owned kicked teh snott out of me as well. It was a jungle carbine with a metal buttplate that you could hide stuff inside. Part of the problem for me was teh LOP was only about 12.5 inches.

I had a Synthetic Savage 116 in 7RemMag with the factory butt pad that was obviously made from recycled bowling balls. 20 rounds and I was black and blue.

A Pachmayr Decelerator solved that problem to the point that I could shoot 50 plus rounds off the bench with no problems.

I've recently tried a Limbsaver, and it's head and shoulders better yet than the Pachmayr for recoil reduction.

Makes my Guide Gun hurt way less than my 30-06.

Have one on my Guide Gun. No complaints other than it doesn't match my stock perfectly (yes it's the pad for an 1895).

Gotta admit to putting a slip on recoil pad onto my LE No.5. That narrow rubber pad it came with is an obsenity.

Sounds like that stock doesn't fit you worth #### SignGuy. Compare the length of pull to other rifles that agree with you more. Now is the perfect time to fix the problem with spacers (if need be) and a recoil pad to get a more appropriate length! That plus a recoil pad's influence and you'll think the 303 is a pussy me thinks...

Oh ya, forgot mrs signguy will shoot it so you need to take what fits her into account too of course..:)

I put one on my Ruger Mk II .338Mag and was so impressed that I put another on my M70 .270Win. for my teenager's use (good excuse, eh) They look good and work great. When I buy my next .45-70, it'll be getting a Pachmayer before I even fire it. My gunsmith charged about $40 (+pad) to install them. Well worth it, but I doubt it'll improve the look of a SMLE...KF

well the length of pull is somewhere between whats good for me and whats good for the mrs' so i'll leave it like that i bought decelerator from lebarons today spent like 45 min with the guy trying to match one up to the old pad
found one that was close enough so i have a little bit of modding to do to the pad and stock figures lol i will post the before and after pics later
hmmm i wonder what putting a brake on would do ? out side of deafing every from stittsville to vanier

Decelerators work good and look nice, but I dont think they will help the look of a 303 :D

Maybe, but if it's bubba'd then why not?

Personally I like the metal buttplate just in case I run out of ammo.:D
