I was telling a buddy that I'm about to start teaching a mutual friend how to reload for his 300.Win mag. I told him the guy could use my equipment until he got comfortable reloading, then could buy his own equipment. My buddy said he had a pacific press that he could have, but needs to find a shell holder for it. Any ideas if they are hard to find? Where can he get one?
 
Should work with any shellholder. I can`t remember if it was pacific or c&h that made a press that had the shellholder built into the ram, that was a pain in the butt. I got one for free one time, machined up a new ram to take regular shellholders. Made a few dollars and kept the press from the scrap heap.

there was enough of a demand that someone out there made an adaptor as well- i don't know how it worked exactly, but it was along the lines of an extended shellholder, with a universal cup on one end- it made your ram about 3 inches longer and just snapped in
 
IIRC the ram looked much thicker than RCBS or others but the top of the ram slot looked much thinner. Thinking back he said," He'd have to get a shoe for it"... He called it a shoe?!?!? Is there a piece the shell holder goes into called a shoe? Sorry guys I may have not understood him.
 
a "shoe" would be a shellholder- look at one- see the way it's crescent shaped- like a HORSESHOE?
 
Here is what the C-H system is. The ram cross bar has a hole in it, with the shell holder in it. The original threaded shell holder goes through this hole with a nut on the bottom. It was for one cartridge head only. Mine was for the 30-06 family.
The universal shell holder I later got from C-H has a groove on top, to take standard shell holders. It is what is shown, with a standard shell holder in it and a 44 mag seating die on top.
Disregard the little cone shaped thingy, it's background that failed to get cropped out.

yes, but that's the LATER model- i'm well familiar with the earlier ones- lyman also at one time had propetiary shellholders, as did redding and a bunch of others- guys like herters,
