I know an ATV with a trailer would be ideal, but I'm not there yet. I'm looking for a comfortable pack frame that I can carry animal parts out of the Bush with. While I know there are lots of different ones out there, who makes the best one? Let me know what your experiences are.

Thanks,

Just an external frame pack with a fold out bottom piece; one that doesn't stick above your head. Meat in gamebags held on with those cheap bungee cords.

Tough part is finding an external frame pack. Military surplus has one. I got a new one used one here by putting a wanted ad in the hunting gear section of the ee.

check out Skyview Outdoors in Surrey. (just google it and go to their website) They have 2 external frame packs made by Camp Trails, Moose or Elk models. The Freighter frame with either of these packs is excellent and affordable. Pack is easily removed for carrying game or other heavy loads.
Another really good freighter frame is the tatonka lastenkraxe. This one also has a bag that can be removed/attached easily. Frame can be purchased separately if you want.
I have a Tatonka and my brother and son both have a Camp Trails Elk pack. Great set packs for out back country Mule deer hunts.

I can second the Camp Trails Moose Bag/Freighter frame pack! I've been using mine for 20 years now for moose hunts, canoe trips etc. Very durable and the big bag is nice only having one big compartment and two side pockets. Just take the bag off at camp and you're good to go. This combo is still about the same price i paid way back at SIR(c$135.00). I also just got the Alps Outdoors Commander frame from amazon in the mail (sans bag) for about $90. Not as adjustable as the camp trails model and the tie-on system seems a bit cheesy but we'll see how it works on conoe trip at the end of the month. I'll report back if this thread is still active.

We still use Trapper Nelson packs... 45+ years and going strong... canvas bag inside is coated in bear fat reduction... 100% waterproof... as a matter of fact... I have filled the canvas bag half full of water, strapped the lid and packed it in to the kill location so we could wash up... that's pretty waterproof...

Getting real tough to find these days. I have a small stash of them, fortunately.

We used the Trapper Nelsons when timber cruising way back... I kept a half dozen when I moved on...

if your just using it for backing meat I would get just a plain frame pack. if you want a dual purpose pack your possibilities are endless.

I use a Badlands 2800 pack. it will pack half a deer no problem.

I'd check out the Paradox Pack from Seek Outside. Pretty hard to beat. Either that or look for one of the now discontinued Dana Designs external frame packs. Miles ahead of any Camp Trails pack, and light years ahead of any Trapper Nelson.

You might like the Kelty Cache Hauler. I haven't tried one myself but it is designed for that sort of thing. You can buy the frame and pack separately.

I like the look if that Kelty. I'm going to check with our local shop here to see if he can bring a couple in for me.

I use an internal frame but if I were to get an external frame I'd pick up a Kelty Cache Hauler and give it a whirl. From what I have seen of one in a store I think it would work nicely.
