I'm looking for suggestions on a new day pack. I'm a small guy, 5'7 and 150lbs. Something with a meat shelf is preferred. Any suggestions from the other short guys on here?

You and I are the same size. I researched packs for a while and ended up with a Mystery Ranch Metcalf, its a medium sized pack, enough room for a week if needed and you can compress it down enough to be used as a daypack. It also has a meat shelf and is capable of heavy loads. I looked at Stone Glacier and Kifaru, they are nice packs but more expensive. Mystery Ranch has a whole line of packs, check them out. Mystery Ranch hunting packs were made in the USA but have since moved offshore, they are still very well made imo.

Doesn't have a meat shelf but I am the same size as you and had done a bit of research on bags that would work for me for hunting, fishing, camping and just a general day pack. I settled on the Hazard 4 Rocket/Evac, it's a single strap which works well for carrying a slung rifle on the other shoulder. I'm very happy with it so far, taken it out hunting a dozen times or so and fishing a few times. Well made, decently priced.

In running the alps outdoorsZ extream hybrid X pack. It has a meat shelf for hauling quarters and a bag that's big enough to run as a day pack.

Like everybody I'm trying to save a buck but I dont mind paying a little more for a quality pack. Kifaru and SG are definitely not on the table.

Thanks everyone else for the suggestions.

Eberlestock Mainframe with Batwing pouches is a really sweet mid-range pack. You want to look at the new long version with the functional load lifters. I have the older version and love it, but it is not ideal for big loads - this has been adressed in new long version.

The price tag hurts, but I just picked up a Stone Glacier EVO 3300. This seemed like the perfect size to go from day to couple day pack, yet not sacrifice the ability to pack out meat. I did purchase the 500 lid for it to add that little extra spot to store quick access stuff like binos and such. For the couple times I have used it for a day hike all I had to do was sinch it down and it doesn't move despite having very little in it.

I like the colour and can use it for work and play.

Load shelf held a 40lb sand bag and a full pack without issue on my second test outing. The frame and harness is decent, though for a day only pack is probably over kill. Though the ability to switch bags, or even drop the bag for just the hauler is what sold me on it.

I'm going to do a review on here after I get some more time on it.

I am a big dude so I have the opposite issues, but the large belt, and the endless adjustability helped greatly in getting this pack to fit right on me. They offer smaller belt sizes as well and a good video on how to adjust it properly.
