I had ordered a milsurp part from abroad, and when it arrived (after being held up for several weeks), I found that it had been opened by CBSA. Is it a common occurrence for CBSA to open packages with parts in them?

Yup, CBSA opens whatever they want, esp. if it is an interesting toy.

Opened my TRS-25 from a week ago, retape with official yellow labelled tape.

Yep, pretty common. I have had model airplane kits and engine boxes opened, gun parts boxes opened, shooting accessories, apparel and more. Did they ding you the handling fee for the privilege of having them rummage through your stuff?

Yup they open everything I order just to tag that $5 handling fee crap

You should feel lucky....they dinged me $45.00 and half of my order went missing. Packing slip and goods delivered to my address didn't add up. The idiots at CBSA actually put the wrapping for the pieces they stole back in the parcel.. I went so far as to call the vendor in California and talked to the person that personally packaged my order...I was the first Canadian order for this business and that they wanted to make sure that the order was filled properly....so long story short......thx aholes at CBSA....Every time I called to question my parcel and why pieces were missing all I got was....."Are you calling us thieves"?....You are what you are...

I hope your answer to their question was a resounding "Hell yes, I'm calling you thieves!"

The Black Helicopters hovering overhead come next....

Thats my favourite part. Being charged money to have government agents go through your personal stuff.

It was just a Garand bolt, so they couldn't steal it otherwise there would be nothing in the package. Surprisingly, I never got charged anything

They tried to ding me for an outrageous amount on some antique parts. I wrote them a letter explaining that when I lay out $3 plus shipping for each of a bunch of tiny little screws that I could make by myself for a nickel apiece, it is because they are ORIGINALS which have been out of production for 150 years.

THEN I reminded them that there is NO DUTY ON BOOKS, never has been.

By the time they digested that, they forgot about the GST, but still clanged me $5 "handling fee"..... and GST on THAT!

I was tempted to write back and explain that the Constitution reserves Direct Taxation to the Provinces and that the GST is a Direct Tax in the unwashed hands of the Federal Gummint but, by that time, I was too ripped to write anything unless every second word started with "F".

Idiots.

Idiots with a tiny bit of POWER.

God protect us from IDIOTS WITH POWER.

Come to think of it, I too have had them tamper with my mail. It was on some slings and ammo pouches from LTC.

@ Burnaby. I am surprised that you got an optic out of the US. Given the ITAR BS

But they are not all bad.

Used to shoot with a Customs officer who was a decent guy.

I brought in some bayonets one time. He said they were mislabelled as "military equipment"; they Should have been labelled as "Miscellaneous manufactures in iron and steel - used knives". With a Value set on a USED KNIFE as $1, each one then would owe 7 cents in GST. For 35 cents, he wouldn't make out the paperwork.

Like I said, some of them are good guys.

The ones that TERRIFY me are the female "agents" at the Border who love to rip my car apart for 3 hours at a crack, find nothing, fly into a PMS rage, order ME to clean up the mess THEY made.... and refuse to show you their ID so you can complain about their attitude (which stinks) and their manners (which do not exist).

Can anyone explain to me why a CBSA thread has more views and more replies than a thread that concerns all of us.Petition the Government to remove the onerous laws. Paltry screws and miscellaneous parts that do not even construe a firearm, are subject to inspection. Way to go CBSA,"You're keeping us safe."

They busted some guy in manotick not too long ago for buying a bunch of prohibited stuff from the US. They xray lots of #### too BTW...I guess this assclown was making a habit of it, so they released it all then busted him after he signed for it.
