Packing extra ammo

I am looking to see what everyone is useing for packing extra rounds while out. On my .410 I use a rifle buttstock neoprene thing to hold 6 shells. Stays on the front rack of the quad. Fast to load the single shot for grouse. Trying to figure out something for my rifles. Had enough on the cartridges jingling in the pocket.
 
Ammo belt?
Lots of different varieties.
Folding ones that hang off your belt.
Stick one in each pocket and replace as necessary.
Drill holes in your fenders the right size and plunk them in there?
 
well without a ATV right now... so when I am on foot, I have a few loose shotgun shells for my shotgun in my pocket. For the rifle, I take 10 rounds and use the plastic sleave that comes in box's of ammo and stick it in my back pocket. I just started out last year. This year I need a backpack to carry proper survival stuff if need.
 
I have but stock elastic shell holder, a few cartridge belts, one leather folding carrier that goes on a belt, but I always seem to go back to using those plastic things that come with federal ammo. I've cut them in half to fit in smaller pockets before which worked well. They keep things from jingling around and are easy to grab from a vest pocket.
 
1980's vintage nylon fanny pack that I usually wear with the pack in front. It has a handy enough front pouch that fits 3 of the plastic shell holders that Federal (maybe?) used to sell their ammo in.

Replaced the zipper pulls with cord, so it didn't rattle, been good so far.

Less street cred than my Swiss Army Knife, but it serves. :D
Can carry he basics of a survival kit (fire, plastic emergency blanket, etc) and some basics for game handling,(some cordage, a sharpener) as well as some dry toilet paper.

If you happen to call in a pack of wolves instead of an elk, the last place you want your spare ammo is in a pack. Some guys insist on doing things the hard way, it's never not funny though.

I build leather buttstock cartridge holders for all my iron from shotguns to rifles.

I built a pouch for the butt of my falling block .22
mag holders for the butt of my semi auto
cartridge holder for most others...even built a cheek rest that has a pouch for 2 full strippers for my SKS
nothing a fella can't build if he really wants to.

I never liked those elastic ones because they can slide around and that just won't do.
I have used everything from old leather jackets to boot tops for the leather, as you can see. :p

I have a couple of the Neoprene Rifle Butt Stock Shell Holders made by Uncle Mike's and, they serve the purpose. However, I also have two 10 round belt mounted folding ammo carriers that I prefer using. One by Kolpin and another named a Sidekick, made by Michaels of Oregon.
 
On my rifle I use a spandex type shell holder that holds 9 for my 2506 on the stock. I carry 4 ammo wallets on my belt that hold 7 in each. 5 in th gun

For my 45/70 I do the same but 5 on the gun and 14 each wallet. I also keep 50 rounds in green loading boxes in the truck or bike. I usually have close to 100 rounds on or very near by
 
Those buttstock shell holders look best beside a crudely carved deer in the stock. Your SIN number etched in the receiver nicely complements it as well. I use a loaded magazine and a few extra in my pocket.

wow that's a lot. I bring about 2 boxes with me. when I am out I have 5 on hand and the reminder of the box in my pack. the box other box is left at camp.
I don't feel short with 20rnds on me. but would like to have more accessible fast. I think i will try one of the belt pouches.
 
I have as many as the rifle holds plus 2 spare mags for detachable box mags fully loaded the enough ammo to load each mag up once more for most centerfire for .22 its a few mags and a pouch full of loose rounds.
