They're at it again. Here's a link: https://www.landuse.alberta.ca/RegionalPlans/SouthSaskatchewanRegion/SSRPRAC/Pages/default.aspx

Here's the important part: Recommendations:

5.3.14.2 Respect private property rights by developing a suite of conservation and
stewardship tools (e.g., economic and market-based incentives,
conservation easements, transferable development credits, mitigation
banking and paid access for hunting) that can be voluntarily used by
landowners and disposition holders to help sustain biodiversity.

Thanks to http://albertasportsman.com If I hadn't seen it there I wouldn't have even heard about this.

Was posted on the albertasportsman forum, just follow the link.

I was on that forum, and the links led to the same default page. I could only find old information, and old lists for hearings. I was looking for something that gave a date of November 2012.

I have seen all this before.

Paid access for hunting on private land isn't a good thing for most hunters. Using paid access by disposition holders is a very, very scary thought. Grazing leases and Farm Development leases are crown land with agricultural dispositions on them. Having to pay to hunt on crown land would be an atrocity.

Gotta love the Alberta PayCash party.

There are no dates for northern Alberta?? Peace River or GP areas??

Peace, if you follow the link in post#10 it gives you the call numbers of the Land use secretariat. If you call the main number the lady can tell you the dates/locations of the mtgs in your area. The province is split into I believe 5 areas; all are having these input mtgs shortly, and some right now.
Near as I can garner these dates/locations are NOT being advertised, so we're down to word of mouth to have input. The lady was very helpful with info, sure she can get you sorted.

I suspect the fewer chosen places to talk in the north for this newest subject is on purpose by those organizing these public meetings. Already up here the Lower Athabasca plan has rural landowners and hunters on edge about land use/access. This 'paid access for hunting' is tatmount to commericalizing the resource. I do not know about anyone else, but I did not move here to mirror 'country living' in Central Europe! Take away hunting and I might as well pack up and move to NY city, same thing right? Someone is playing divide and conquer with us IMO!

...the Americanization of sport hunting in Canada. It will only spread across the Prairies like cancer.

So who, exactly, is pushing for this?

I've never known the PC's to come up with their own ideas in the past.

Is there some land owners group who has the ear of the PC's? This keeps coming up, so there has to be some party who keeps campaigning for it.

So, for us young bucks with our beards not yet grown, the idea behind this is that someone wants to charge hunters admission fees to be able to access land for the purpose of hunting, on top of all the current restrictions?

Hmm, I can't say I agree with that idea. Seems to me you'd get one rich guy drop ten thousand bucks to have the place to himself and stonewall all us peasants.
