Just pulled apart a 1954 SKS for cleaning, it is the circle with triangle and arrow, not to sure of the factory. But the bolt is painted, I have had a few SKS's in the past and have never seen this before, just wondering what would be the best way to remove or should I leave it? Had it soaking in mineral spirits all day, it didn't faze it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

You have a 1954 Izhevsk SKS. Many refurb sks have a painted bolt and /or all metal parts. Sometimes, paint was applied to cover rust. Its a refurb so removing the paint wont hurt value, particulary if the paint look bad. Best way would be to use paint stripper than polish with very fine steel wool and some oil.

I put some ordinary paint stripper in a disposable cake pan, let the bolt soak in it for 15 minutes and then used an old toothbrush to take the paint off. Buffed it up with a buffing wheel and compound on my bench grinder, nice and shiny in no time.
