Painting a barrel ?

Can you paint a barrel thats already blued with heat paint ? Good or bad idea ? Just want muzzle brake and barrel to match color.

Paint adheres best to a rough surface. If you want it to stick best, you would need to rough up the surface to a matt finish before painting.
