painting a rifle

I am painting my Ithaca .22 in mossy oak bottomland camo for crow hunting and was just wondering how you prepare the action and barrel for painting (blued) and if using degreaser is really needed? What precautions do you take before painting a rifle and scope, and do you also paint the muzzle or just leave it as the paint will burn off? Sorry for all the questions, I am new to the concept! Any tips would be helpful.....

Are you planning on leaveing it painted? If yes, completely degrease eferything you're going to paint, put on some kind of undercoat/primer and themdecide if you want glossy or flat colors. There are some great automotive paints out there that will do a fine job. Don't paint the underside of the receiver or trigger group pr anywhere on the bedding area.That's the quickest method I can describe. Paint is easy to repair the finish on an is underutilised as a firearms finish. bearhunter

Sand it and degrease it and paint away.

Thanks, I'm planning on leaving it painted, just one last question - will oil based paint stick to the blueing, will the blueing affect the paint in any way? Should I take it off or prepare it some way?
