Good video!
It makes me angry that a silly technicality caused these to be banned. Apparently CZ welded up the new, unassembled receivers and then re-machined them as semi-auto only. A Canadian-legal 18.6" barrel was added and they were imported as non-restricted. After a ton were sold in Canada, the RCMP suddenly revisited the classification and decided that the VZ 858 was a converted auto, thus prohibited. I think the project was started by Wolverine Supply in Manitoba, but I'm not sure. I do know that they were a distributor of the rifles. I think I paid around $700 and they make the SKS look like Barney Rubble's rifle.
What we need is a company like Maple Ridge Armoury to produce a new semi-auto only receiver for these guns and offer a conversion service. I think the barrel is pressed in and maybe pinned, so a conversion would not be a DYI project like MRA's Renegade or Maverick rifles.
Anyone else agree? I think there are thousands lurking in Canadian safes.
Another idea would be for a Canadian company to import newly manufactured receivers from the Czech Republic to install in place of the prohib ones. See the link in the post below.
