I am thinking about doing something with an Elcan Specter DR that has some residual paint on it (greens and browns and whatnot). I will try to clean it up as best I can but if I am not happy with it, what are the best options for a refinish ? I could prefer to stay away from a rattle can  What stands up to hard use ? I would like to keep in flat black if possible.

If you bang your scope around enough during "hard use" your Specter will likely be damaged long before you need to touch up the Krylon...... Just saying.... ;)

Not to hi-jack this thread, but what brand on paint would be best to use on a scope? Right now there is a glossy finish on my scope. Any info would be appreciated!

I just use krylon and it works great, but if you want something a little better try alumhyde (SIC) you can get it at brownells.

I used krylon on my last rig, but with the next one I am going to duracoat the base layer. That way going through the woods and brush will scratch the krylon, but with wont be a noticable black underneath.

Krylon hasent held up well for me, but it is cheap to touch up
