I have a Weatherby Vanguard .223 HB with the Kryptek Typhon camo scheme synthetic stock.
I don't hate it, but I don't love it.
I was wondering if anybody has tried painting one of these? What prep work was needed and what paint worked best?

Did one a month ago easy peasy just make sure the stock has no oil on it and paint it! I used krylon tan as a base and olive drab for a camo design then used black webb paint let it dry and sealed it!

just painted my vanguard this week, I preferred to strip the hydro dip off it, cleaned off all the old primer, degreased it, scuffed it up with 320 grit, another cleaning, primer, 400 grit, paint, 400grit, paint, webbing spray, clear coat will be up next

looking at it this morning, I think I should have pressed some of the webbing into the stock a bit...the heavy fibres are ok, but some of the lighter strands picked off pretty easy, I may hit it again quickly before I clear coat....either way, looks way better than the flamer pattern

What did you use to strip off the hydro dip? I was thinking about using propanol to remove it.
Did you use Krylon webbing paint? I haven't been able to find any of that yet and have heard that they don't actually make it any longer.

I used furniture stripper from home depot, the gel stuff.....I used all krylon products, the webbing spray was from michaels

Thanks for all the info, much appreciated.
Once I track down the supplies I will get mine painted up!
