I've got an 870 Express and want to make a fun project for my young lad and I to do our own camo paint job (I looked into camo dipping and cerakote already - much more than I want to spend). I've painted a few synthetic rifle stocks before and have some good tricks to make a decent camo job, but that was with Krylon and I'm not sure of that is the best choice for the metal. I'm hoping to add a little corrosion protection as well, since the Express is somewhat prone to rust. Has anyone here used Duracoat (or any other paint) to paint the metal on their shotgun? How has it been wearing? Thanks!

I did a barrel in tan a while ago. I used the Krylon camo paint (got it on sale at walmart) Seemed to hold up okay, the good news is it's easy to reapply.

Look for Aervo paint. Just as easy as Krylon but it's supposed to be more durable. Still a low buck method.

Google Pat Rogers Aervo paint.

Painted my 870 in literally 30 min. Cleaned it well with solvent, then just grabbed a few random branches.
Started with a dark brown base coat, then tan and finished with green. Let dry all of 10 min between coats.
Taped off the action bars, bolt, sights and trigger group. It's starting to wear on the butt stock and the rubber hogue forend.
Other than that it's Holding up well. I carry this shotgun everywhere and it gets beat on. Two days ago out kayaking and it got
Soaked with salt water. I clean her up after every outing with a head to toe oiling and it doesn't hurt the paint. I'm actually
Impressed with the durability.

Just hit it with the Krylon camo and don't look back. Give it a few good days to dry before you start relying on it not to chip etc... But I have used it lots on all kinds of Plastic and Metal and it is really durable. Just my 2 cents!

great looking sights on that shotgun, what are they?

As for paint, Yup, I've krylon camo painted shotguns. They always eventually scratch, but it's easy to just do it over once every year or three

Sctattergun tech ghost ring rear and a straight up norc barrel with norc factory front sight. Works perfectly. 25 yards I can put slugs through the same hole.

This is by far the best camo I have seen for do it yourself other than water transfer ( Camo dip)

He did a great job painting the gun....too bad he did it to a perfectly good gun. I personally wouldnt have done that to that particular gun. Painting wood stocks doesnt do it for me.

This is a pistol grip stock I dipped for my Mossberg. I purchased a pistol grip stock for turkey hunting but it only came in black. I tried matching the pistol grip stock to the original Advantage Max 4 camo. Not perfect, but close enough...

Sorry for the extended delay in respond.

I like it very much may I ask where did you purchase your supplies (the kits or film)?

Do they carry Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades?

Need to match it on one of my guns.

I ordered a kit from mydipkit. They had lots of camo patterns to choose from but I cant recall if Shadow Grass Blades was one of them
