Pakistan .303 British surplus ammo

A guy was trying to sell me 3 boxes of 32 rnds and one box of 48 for $800. I thought it was a little steep. He reassured me it was very collectible ammo

The problem with old ammo is not how it was leaving the factory, but how it has been stored over the years. Pakistani ammunition has never been held in high regard because of indifferent storage conditions.

There was a time when Pakistani surplus ammo was very good stuff. Especially their 303Br and 8x57 Mauser.

POF is one of the world's largest suppliers of just about every type of ammunition in production. They make ammo for all of the big nations, including the US, GB and France. Maybe even Canada????

One thing about their 303 BR is that their bullet diameter is .310 in. If it is larger it is pretty early stuff. I have a No4 MkII made by POF in excellent condition. I picked it up from a dealer that frequents this site but doesn't advertise here. Beautiful dark Circassian Walnut with very straight plain grain. I have several different diameter 303 bullets, from .310-316. This rifle wouldn't shoot anything but POF ammo well. That's when I measured the rifle's bore and the diameter of the POF ammo.

There is a very good chance it is under diameter for your rifle's bores.

As far as hang fires, the last few batches coming into North America leave a lot to be desired. The stuff should be sold as components only. To bad it's Berdan primed but those primers are available and it isn't a big deal to replace them.

The POF ammo from 25 years ago was good stuff but not very accurate in most rifles chambered for the 303BR. The brass is good though and resizes very nicely.

The last batch of POF surplus I saw was in the US two years ago. Pretty grungy looking stuff. Lots of corrosion on it (verdigris) and it was dirt cheap. It was sold as components only. The fellow I talked to about it said that the only thing that should be salvaged in his opinion were the bullets. Pull the bullets, dump out the powder, if it will come out of the case and throw the brass into a can of varsol to deaden the primers. Sell the brass and burn the powder or spread it on the flower beds.

Um, nope. Britain; Radway Green, the US; Lake City and others (sometimes IMI), France; China (this is not a joke, there is a technical reason for it) Canada; IVI (SNC/General Dynamics)

I just wish they would sell us about a zillion .312 Mark VII bullets.

They have the tooling and they still use it.

Canada USED TO make wonderful .303 ammo AND components.

Appears as if we are no longer ALLOWED to purchase such.

What a joke this country has become.... and in less than a single lifetime!

You misread the intent of the post. I wasn't just talking about 303BR. I was talking about everything up to and including 40mm. Good chance bigger stuff as well.

To my knowledge, Canada nor the UK or other European nations ever bought POF 303Br. Many other nations have though.

Go onto the Pakistani Ordinance Factory website and take a look.

the stuff I had was garbage hang fires and split casings I pulled them down melted the lead and crushed the cases

If you reload, why would you melt the lead out of the bullets????

The stuff being sold now is IMHO for components only. Even then, it is almost as cheap to buy new bullets from your local gun store or one of the site sponsors.

This stuff was surplussed for a good reason. Does anyone have a crate with indicating marks to find out where it came from???? Some places have pretty extreme temperatures where the ammo is stored.

the bore on my lee Enfield is not great and it don't shoot all that great with jacketed anyway it likes .316" cast

Why doesn't some start making components in Canada? Would there be enough support for the manufacture of canadian made components? The distribution system is in place, there is enough shooters who know what they want. I guess I'm asking if someone were to make the components that were of decent quality at a comparable price to imported components would they sell or would people stick with what they already had loads developed with and snub new untried components? Would Canadian made really make a difference in our marketplace?
