Im not sure if this has come up before, a search yeilded nothing but this shíte

I moved over here last year from Ireland and will be staying atleast another year or so. Unfortunately for me all my kit is 5000 miles away but on the plus side there are a few guns here that you might have trouble liscencing back home depending on the local police sergent.

My question is regarding the two canadian references that have knonw you 3+ years and will attest to your good charecter.

Is there any lee-way or alternative for a person in my situation?

I know i could ring the 1800 number but I thought id ask more sympathetic people first.

Obviously i can produce a Police cert from back home no problem but will i have to stay here three years just to be able to own a few guns?

Thanks in advance for any advice or direction given.

Not sure if this is the correct advice but possibly you could produce some references from Ireland and then attach a note stating that you have only been in Canada for one year and therefore have not known anyone here for three years. It would be good to include a couple of Canadian references too even if under three years.

It's basically just so a bureaucrat can tick a box saying your are not a nut job.

For your Irish references, I'd advise against giving your local pub telephone number. The time difference works against you. Mid-afternoon here is a few hours before "last call".

Just kidding................
Welcome to Canada and I hope things work out for you.

Cheers for the advice, Ive held Firearms Liscences back home for the last 12 or 13 years so maybe they might accept some sort of reference from the coppers back home, but knowing some of those boys they would be out to the home place looking to take up my guns cos im not in the country.

I suppose Ill have to give the boys here a shout and see if i can clarify things.

Im from the country so last orders is generally when you run out of money or they cops knock the place.:cheers:

Thanks again.

When I got my license I was in Canada for about a year and a half.
My 2 refs were people that I knew back in Brazil and also immigrated.
So if you have any friends from back home that immigrated to Canada, you can also use them as refs for sure.

A letter of good conduct from the coppers back home would definitely help.
