Hey Guys,

I've just applied for my RPAL license and out of interest I was wondering what kind of things they ask you on the interview? What do they ask your references?

They'll ask you why you need restricted vs just non, and if you've suffered job loss, divorce, etc in the last little while... I guess anything that could make you depressed or irrational. At least they asked me... :)

correct, the want to see how well you life is going what kind of person you are.
When bad things happen, people do stupid things, if you have a history of bad things happening, the Go.ca think your likly to go postal.

They DO ask you questions.

Why you want to shoot guns, are you someone with anger problems or depression, do you eat babies, etc.

Applicant:

Basically just go over what you already answered on the application, and why you want a restrictd if you applied for the RPAL. The answer to that is either target shooting or collecting, but go with target shooting.

References:

Basically the CFC assumes you are a criminal:

Does the applicant have a fascination with workplace shootings?
Tell me about a time where the applicant acted violently.
Were you forced to act as a reference?

Crap along those lines.

just to add to what was said before: they did ask me about my relationship with my ex-gf and how long ago it was. I said: well she's a reference so she can tell you but we're friendly, blah blah.

Also my interviewer was a bit funny because she changed the .. tense? of the question so one answer was NO and the next one was YES so you couldn't just go YES YES YES all the way down the list. One question I remember was like a double negative and I had to think about it. Maybe she was bored.

I warned my references about that but they didn't get the same business from their interviewer.

I was asked application questions that fit what I had filled out. Just a little more in detail.

For my references, they asked all sorts of questions, some hypothetical. Asked if I had ever talked about shooting up a school or my workplace or about acquiring illegal weaponry. Stuff like that.

Apart from the questions already mentioned in previous posts, they might ask your references if you like watching War movies or Violent Movies.........

They will ask you every question you answered on your application.

They will also ask you why you want to own restricted firearms or maybe why you plan to purchase them in the near future...

See below for a snip of my conversation with them. Just say target practice and sport shooting.

CFC: "Why do you plan on purchasing restricted firearms ?"

Me: "Oh I dont know, I might not... I just wanted to get my PAL and thought that one day I might like to buy Restricteds"...

CFC: "If you dont plan to by Restricted firearms then you don't need a RPAL. You need to resubmit your application for only a PAL".

ME: "Oh no, what I meant was I would like to have them just so i can... own them ... and will get one soon".

CFC: "You plan on collecting them? "

ME: "Oh yes, I will collect them and shoot them"

CFC: "You mean target practice. You can only own them for target practice or collecting. Which is it?"

ME: "Target Practice."
