I've read conflicting information regarding the picture requirements for a PAL.

A friend of mine is in the process of upgrading his 6 month old PAL to RPAL and sent in a new picture which was another printing of the same picture he used for his PAL. He called today and was told that despite the fact that the picture is less than 6 months old, because it was used for his PAL, he needs to send a new, different photo along with a copy of his drivers license.

That one is a head scratcher.

It was good enough six months ago, but now, because it has already been deemed acceptable for a license, he needs to take a new photo? I don't get it.

In their defense, the picture guidelines clearly state it must be an original picture. Not sure what's up with the drivers' licence though, it also clearly states that you should not send in a copy of the ID.

Funny, I lost my wallet a couple years back and when I filled out the forms to get a new one, I didn't have to send in a new pic. They just used the one on file from the lost one. The PAL was more than a year old at the time.

I'm curious about them wanting his driver's license. Did they perhaps mean for him to send in his PAL with a new picture so they can send him an RPAL?

I'm not sure if they should or shouldn't accept the photo ... it's up to thier policies and whatnot. But I think they should mention WHY the one he gave is no good.

Its not that they need a new, *updated* photo of him. Its that they need a new, *physical* photo. This is required when they manufacture his new card. They do not keep copies of the old photos laying around, nor from what I understand, do they keep a digital copy of it.

No, he sent a new physical picture. Freshly printed. The problem was that it was another printing of the same digital photo that he had used for his PAL in August. It just makes no sense.

Key word recent, to them means days not weeks or months.. Walmart $20.00 and say for firearms license they have the proper sizing templates..

I guess if your Drivers license 11 months ago had a beard, and today your clean shaven your screwed...

:confused::confused:
