I would like to get my PAL but in the past have been treated for panic attacks. Someone told me they won't give you your PAL because of that and I would like to know if panic attacks in the past automatically disqualify you? My Dad has rifles and I am the only family member interested in keeping them in the family so if I can't get a PAL they will be sold including my grandfather's rifle.

Take the required courses.

Fill out the application honestly.

You are not "automatically" disqualified.

The only thing it might effect is the question
16. d) During the past five (5) years, have you threatened or attempted suicide, or have you suffered from or been diagnosed or treated by
a medical practitioner for: depression; alcohol, drug or substance abuse;behavioural problems; or emotional problems?

If it was later than 5 years ago, they don't need to know. If you were treated more recently than 5 years prior, answer yes and write a explanation on a separate piece of paper. It just means that the local CFO will review your file, reading your explanation as to why you answered yes, and determine from there.

Panic attacks don't usually cause violent or self harmful behavior. Be honest on the application as getting caught lying will automatically disqualify you. The CFO can request a letter from your doctor saying they don't feel that you are a danger to yourself. They will most likely just interview your references.
