ok, so I was reading through the Newbie FAQs (very helpful btw) and I saw in a few threads of applicants being contacted for some sort of interview. I was never contacted for such interview-was I supposed to? Nevertheless, I checked online and my license has been issued-no problem there. But when I asked my references if they were contacted- they were not. What's up with that?

As well, I have my name on a waiting list for the RPAL training and testing in my area. Since I'll most likely have my PAL license by then- would the RPAL license be an entirely NEW license or an ammendment to the PAL? As well, I am under the understanding, that in Ontario (the province in which I reside) that to get the LICENSE you have to be affiliated with a shooting range. What about persons obtaining the license for work related reasons (I'm a security guard hoping to get into Brinks)- do I still need to be affilated with a shooting range, and as well, does the ATC (Authorization to Carry) override the ATT (Authorization to Transport)?

Sorry about all the questions- answer as best as ya can.
Thanks.

Not sure about the requirments for security work but I will tackle your first question.

Generally with a non restricted license the RCMP do not conduct an interview with you or contact your references. When you upgrade to the restricted that changes. Someone will call you from the CFC to conduct a brief interview. They will also call the references you provided.

Not sure about needing affiliation to get RPAL. For sure in ONT you need affiliation to get ATT (because it is the only place you can legally shoot it) I would think you can get an RPAL with out belonging to a club but you wont get an ATT

Have no idea how the ATC works.

You can obtain the RPAL without membership at a range; however, I believe that target shooting and collecting are the only legal reasons for the RPAL.

I'm not sure about the ATC overriding the ATT because the ATC would be acquired through Brink's, or whatever company it is that employs you. That being said, I'd assume you would only be allowed to carry while working/under the supervision of Brink's, and while using THEIR firearm.

Hopefully this may help, but I'm not certain that I'm correct about the ATC and ATT

You and your references are only contacted when you apply for the RPAL

Your RPAL will be an amendment to your current status of license but you will get a new license in the mail that REPLACES your current one I believe.

You do not have to be affiliated with a range to get an RPAL the policy is that to buy and have a restricted gun transferred to you be a member at a range.

Lastly, the ATC you will get will only apply to the gun you have while on the job, generally you do not own this gun and it will be kept at your place of employment. Your ATC will not apply to any restricted you own and you will only have ATTs related to your personal firearms.

The last bit there might not be entirely correct but it is closer to the truth than an ATC overriding an ATT.
