PAL & R-PAL application question

I did my non-restricted course last weekend and am now waiting for the paperwork to come back from the provincial government (?) so I can send off my PAL application package.

I have signed up for the next restricted course in April but there is a chance that I'll be away that weekend so might not be able to take it until May.

So should I apply for my PAL now and then apply again for the R-PAL once I've done the restricted course, or wait until I've done the restricted course before I apply for anything?

I did my non-restricted course at Shooters Choice in Waterloo, should I see if I can get a restricted course somewhere else that better suits my schedule? Or is there any certified trainers who can do the course one on one on my schedule?

Advice is greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Not sure if you challenge the restricted course or not. There should be trainers in the area that can help you out, but I don't know, they offer the course in my area 2-3x a year, so it's not an issue.

It's not a big deal in terms of wait for the restricted licence, once you've already gotten your PAL, there's a mandatory wait for the non-restr, but not for the restricted, just the processing time, usually 3-4 weeks, so don't bother waiting.

Do both courses and apply at the same time - it'll save you a second 45-day wait (or whatever it is now) for the second classification.

I was forced to surrender my PAL to have it reclassified after CFC's error in not putting on the RPAL class, and at the time it took over 90 days to return it to me - and this was RIGHT after the new "PAL for ammo" regs came into force.

Don't let that happen to you, just submit both at once and be done with it.

I would send in the PAL now. If you are going from a POL to a PAL or PAL to an RPAL there is no mandatory wait.

Things seem to run a bit faster here in NB with waiting times...

I was lucky enough to find another trainer locally who was doing a restricted course today. After some persuading he let me join in so I did, now all I've got to do is wait for are the papers to come back from the provincials and then I can finally send off for my R-PAL. Then the real waiting begins.

I challenged the restricted exam. I did the CFSC non-restricted course and after they had a 2 hour session to let us get some experience with the restricted firearms. One girl came in and just challenged the restricted exam.

As far as I understood - you don't need the course.
