Hello, I am sorry if this has been cleared up before in other forums or posts but I was reading the PAL Approval Time thread on how to shorten approval times and it says it is a timesaver if you have references call in. Do your references get interviewed for a normal PAL (as opposed to an RPAL) as well? If so, what is the process of having them call in? Is it as simple as them calling the CFO office and saying "Hello I am calling as one of PantherD1943's listed references on his PAL application" or is it different? Forgive my newbieism :)

I did a lot of digging online and asked a lot of people about the interview process and there is definitely no standard for whether the references are called or not in regards to regular PAL. For rPAL they are always contacted but for a PAL some people have them called while others do not. Just depends on the agent you get I guess.

So when I do mail my application in and learned they have received do you think it would be safe just to have my references call in anyway?

I can't answer that as I just sent my app in a cpl days ago. You do have that 28day waiting period and I don't think anything can happen before it is up. All I know for sure is that it is hit or miss when it comes to your references being called. Some get called and others don't.

They didn't even call my brother in-law's references. They called mine I'm guessing because I did my restricted as well. My friends received their PAL before me even though I sent the info in before them. I called in and they said they were waiting to speak with my references even though they already had. She said oh ok wait a second......ok you should receive it in the mail soon. Just check the status online and if it starts to get past the two month mark and they haven't called you and your references I would call them. If you call and bug them too much they will probably put you at the bottom of the pile.

I got called as a reference for two people today and did the interview. When I asked if I could do the interview for my wife's rpal at the same time, I was told that I had to wait until someone looked at her application and called me. Her's was sent in at the same time as the other two.
