I have heard of people getting their pal renewal done in 3 weeks and some in 3 months.

So with my PAL going to expire on my birthday (what a present) in early August, I sent in my renewal in early June. (they got it in N.B.on the 2nd)

Recently I phoned the "hot line" and when I finally talked to someone I was told the application was going well and was sent to Alberta for further action. From Alberta when it is approved it will be sent back to New Brunswick and then sent to me (in Alberta). I was given the extention for Alberta. So a few days later I phone the Alberta and they are closed down to improve service to their valued customers. I call again today and my application has been sent from Edm. to Calgary to the F. Officer for my area.

I was told to give the officer in Calgary a week and then call him to see where the application is headed. I did not ask if the application was going to be sent from Calgary back to Edm. before it was sent to New Brunswick so it could be sent back to Alberta to me.

No wonder this system is so bloody costly. They are keeping the Postal service in buisness with all the mailing back and forth. And then there is the chance of the application getting lost each time it goes through the mail.

I think as soon as I get the renewed PAL back I will send in a renewal application for the next time it expires in 2013. Maybe I'll send it to Miramichi care of Inuvik.

It is hard to believe isn't it Duffy? A new passport application, drivers' licence or even an application to bring guns with you for a holiday to the USA are much quicker than a simple PAL renewal. I can see a brand new PAL application taking a bit more time but for a simple renewal where you send in a new photo, check off a few boxes and get your wifes autograph on it, how can that take several months to complete? Why does it need to be mailed to several different offices? It seems rediculous when a person has held a PAL since they day it was required and never had any sort of brush with the law or firearms hiccup of any kind that it can be such a big ordeal to renew. On the renewal letter they tell you to allow 3 weeks for processing, then on the website in says 45 days is normal, then you phone them and they say 60 days is normal...
