Folks may remember Pierre saying that the CPC would "clear the backlog of PAL applications" if elected...

And, I have a friend who submitted the application in October 2024, along with the required test results, references & fee. Having heard nothing, my friend followed up & was told by the CFP that the application was with the CFO. A call was made to the CFO who claimed something was missing & after some back & forth, they were told it's moving again.

Which, when you consider what Pierre AND my friend said, in my opinion tells you the licensing system has been 'weaponized' against applicants. It appears the CFO is obstructing the expedient processing of applications, with many folks saying that getting their PAL took more than a year, which is a completely unacceptable service standard.

Anyone know the general timeline for your card to be printed and mailed?

I got confirmation on Monday (May 12) that my application was approved and my card was going to be printed. Just hoping I get it before this supposedly incoming Canada Post strike :/

I had mine held up over the strike in the winter, I ended up just waiting for it. But I have heard that you could give them a call and see if they can pull it and you can pay for an alternative way to deliver it to you.

I was wondering the same thing, I heard anything from 2month to 1 year even. It reasuring to see that it can be less then that.

(R)PAL update from BC:

I applied for my (R)PAL as a completely new applicant in BC slightly over a year ago (May 2024), and last night when I checked my application I saw that it got issued (YAY!).

I checked the mental health checkbox (depression some years ago), but provided related documentation at application submission date pertaining to my mental health situation now being fine.

I emailed both my MP and MLA in the past month to try and get it moved, but didn't get a response from my MP, and my MLA just wanted to set up an in-person meeting (which is awesome but hasn't happened yet), so I'm not entirely sure if they had any impact on my application. If they did, I greatly appreciate it.

So basically, current wait time for mental health checkbox in BC is at 12 months if you call the CFO monthly and get your politicians involved.

I'm disappointed that it took this long and think that the government should have better resources to process these applications, but I'm happy that it's finally been issued. Now I just have to wait until it arrives in the mail.
