PAL Wait Time

Still waiting and i dont think i will get it anytime soon some people got it 1-2 weeks after the cc charge some have been waiting for 6-7 months, system is incredibly unprofessional and unorganized

This! I don’t mind waiting my turn, but when I see people sending their papers in after me and getting their cards before me, that’s frustrating. Top that off with virtually no one to talk to, ridiculous. Yah new dumb gun law, they are busy, but that doesn’t explain the line jumping. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy fellow Canadians are getting their cards and don’t have to go through this.

Here is my status in Ontario
Application received may 5th
Cc charged and initial review completed august 3rd

As far as i know cfo’s dont even do background checks so i dont know what could cause them to work so slow and unorganized (at this point only if you are extremely lucky you can get it before trudeau’s useless ban on recreational handgun shooting)
We have the exact same timeline! I inquired this week per email and they said it's currently with the CFP..

Have you tried to contact the cfo? If not I would try to and reach you cfo is the best thing to get your application approved
With the main number all backed up I thought I would give this a bump.

I have them on speed dial and call whenever I have a break. The last time I was able to get through to a human was July 26th and was told "It's in the final final stage of review". Asked if I would make it through before hunting season and agent could not give me an answer. Have not been able to get through to anyone since. I keep getting put on hold and then disconnected with message "No one is available to assist you, we are sorry". Maybe I'm just that unlucky?

Not good BC

I've been trying to get through to BC CFO for the last couple weeks. Never had any success. Just put on hold and at some point (between 2 and 18 minutes) hung up on. Lately I haven't even been able to get out on hold, just hung up on straightaway (after a recorded apology).

My license expires in 2 weeks. I've been at initial review for nearly 6 months. I have restricted weapons and a pending transfer.

There are a plethora of words to describe this situation and not one of them is good. I can't help but wonder if this is in some way intentional.

Apparently there's some sort of trick with a highlighter that signifies "importance" so they process it ASAP, meanwhile everyone not aware gets pushed back even further :D

I'm currently coming up on the 8th month mark of my wait here in a couple days... fingers crossed I make it before turkey season(& ban)

Just FYI for everyone that's been waiting. Even though credit card was charged and status said initial review complete.....stuff didn't save correctly and was "missing". Had to call in to be informed about it and get it corrected. Definitely always good to call to make sure they have everything.

UPDATE BC: RPAL Renewal

After many many unsuccessful attempts to get through to the BC CFO's office I was able to get through today. I took the advice of a previous post (Extreme22) and just relentlessly called today. After about 90 minutes I was able to speak to a human being. They were actually very polite and very helpful. They were able to finalize my application and my license has been issued!

Application submitted: April 9, 2022
Application received: April 9, 2022
Card charged: April 9, 2022
License Issued: Sept 23, 2022

Best of luck to you all. Based on my experience I can confirm your best course of action is to contact your CFO if your application seems to be stuck at Initial Review for months on end. After all, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I got my PAL & RPAL in Alberta recently.

Application submitted: May 30, 2022
Application received: June 3, 2022
Card charged: Aug 23, 2022
Received my card: Sep 11, 2022

Looking at the card, I think I regret the photograph I sent in.

I delivered on July 11, maybe I can get mail next month, I hope.

When you call 1-800-731-4000 you talk to a CFP Operators (Canadian Firearms Program) they seem to only create your file online and in the system, take your money and THEN send it to your provincial CFO (Chief Firearms Officers) They seem to be the one to actually do the background check.

When I did call the CFP the lady told me that my file is in the hands of the Quebec CFO, I did request if it was possible to call them.. She told me that she was able to transfer me to them only if I have been waiting for a very LONG time... But online you can easily find their extension number because it seems to be the same number but you need to use the good extension associate to your CFO.

==================
The Chief Firearms Office (CFO) of Quebec : 1 800 731-4000 Extension 7005
The Chief Firearms Office (CFO) of British Columbia : 1 800 731-4000 Extension 9530
The Chief Firearms Office (CFO) of Ontario : 1 800 731-4000 Extension 7503

You have nothing to lose, Try

Thank you so much!

I was waiting at "initial review completed" for like 3 months. Kept getting hung up on when I phoned the general number. Phoned the BC CFO office directly using this extension. Got hung up on a few times, but kept calling back and talked to a nice lady who approved my application on the phone.

Applied March 3rd - Approved September 26th!

Did you ask her if she could approve your application over the phone ? Pls reply I’m about to ring down that office tomorrow lol

I didn't even have to ask. See verified my identity and then ask for a few minutes to review my file. When she came back she told everything looked good and my application had been approved and finalized and to expect my card in 2-3 weeks. With that said, I had applied nearly six months prior.

What number did you phone ? +1 800-731-4000? My application is also on hold since March... cant even get on hold. Keep getting hung up on.

For BC dial the 800 number, then 1, then wait for the blurb, then 1 again, then 9530. I got hung up on the first 30 or more times I called. I eventually got on hold and after about 20 minutes on hold I was able to talk to someone. They were very polite and helpful.

Nope. I just asked for the status on my application and explained that I had phone previously to fix a payment issue. She put me on hold and when she came back told me she was able to just approve it. I checked the web services and it does indeed say approved.
