i was convicted 5 years ago for possesion of weed under 30 grams plead guilty and got a fine 130 bucks. if i get a pardon will i be able to get a pal or am i wasting my time.

If it was over 5 years, you should be fine unless one of the provisions of your sentence was a 10 year firearms ban.

If it was simple possession and not possession with intent to distribute you should be fine. Don't worry about the pardon as far your PAL is concerned, you may want to get one for other reasons though. Was a firearms prohibition part of your sentence? If not and 5 years has passed go ahead. If you were prohibited, check with your CFO to see if the prohibition has expired.
