A friend has a rifle and is looking for some info of its origin. Its a bolt action 308 win and the only stamping on the barrel is "308 win". On the underside of the barrel its stamped "Palmer". the rifle appears to be a mauser action if I'm not mistaken. Can anyone give me a background or value of this gun. The stock is a gloss finish with monto carlo cheak piece.

Not enough info. Sounds like a custom made hunting rifle though. 'Palmer' may be the original owner's name. Post a reasonably sized picture if you can.

Palmer Precision Gunsmiths had a shop in their home in Fredericton, N.B. for several years, I think beginning in the mid nineties. Dave and Peter both got out of the business five or six years ago. If it's one of theirs they did nice work. I recall seeing a small ring mauser sporter that was completely done when I was there picking up a gun. It was a real beauty and complete with a Leupold scope the price tag was around $5000. Hope this helps.
