Just a quickie.

I have the lee c309-120-RN, i am going to spit them out of my 30-30. They are gas checked. They do have lube groves but is tumble lube with alox good enough? Be extra generous with the lube? Lube with both methods?

I have that mold but I drilled out the gas check part. Anyway I just tumble lube all my cast boolits with zero issue. Lang as your not pushing them too hard they should be fine. That said I push my 170s to max 30-30 velocities with Alox.

Tumble lube as normal, if your worried you can just do a second coat once the first dries.

Could also powder coat :)
 
I use the Lee C312-155 grain spitzer designed for the 7.62x39 in my 30-30 (single shot, so spitzer with its long length over max OAL is fine). So far I've just been tumble lubing with Lee Alox - works just fine. Tumble lube, dry, size to .311 / install gas check, and tumble lube again.

That said, just today I bought some beeswax to give pan lubing a try.

Lol, you've just asked all the questions I can answer, start asking stuff about bench rest shooting or more complex questions on bottle neck cases etc then I won't answer. I don't do a lot of rifle shooting as I can't get to a out door range to often. I'm on the waiting list for a new range, but I was told a 1 year wait :(.



If you want to sstretch out your lube you can make 45/45/10 lube which is 45% Lee alox, 45% Johnsons paste wax (minwax works too) and 10% mineral spirits. Here is a link to making it http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?67654-Tumble-Lubing-Made-Easy-amp-Mess-Free

Before I had a sizer it was what I used, I would fill a small cup with it and dip the lube groves into it. Then let them dry on some parchment paper. I didn't like having lube on the nose of the bullet
 
I like tumble lubing but only in calibers where seating die has enough clearance for larger boolit.

If it doesn't dried lube drags and shaves inside it leading to trouble with keeping proper OAL.

I also hate cleaning die every 50 cases or so even if it should be cleaned pretty often when used with lead boolits.


On other hand boolits lubed with alox ,for example in my Carcano ,seem to fly faster ( slightly higher POI) and more accurate than sized and lubed "as usual".
