I found that some of the stronger paper towel, cut to size and folded, also works well for cleaning bores, especially if the bore is very dark, and need lots of cleaning, and very economical. I still like to use clothe patches for the finishing cleaning strokes of the bore :)

I use paper towels all the time - Roll them into little cigars, fold the end over, and wedge them in and stuff until it pops out the other end. Works way better than patches in some cases, and you don't end up smearing past wipes through, or throwing out piles of wipes.

I don't know the trade name for this type of paper towel, but it has re-inforcing "threads" imbedded in it and hangs together well. I use it in addition to regular patches to swab out solvents.

shop towels are awesome, virtually indestructible paper towels. My wife does a lot of quilting (It cost me way more than my hobby) so my rifles get a diet of really fancy patterned expensive flannellette from her scrap pile.
