I'm thinking of buying this gun because I love the way it looks and reviews I read are good. But to use in IPSC, I can't use it in classic division, correct? It's a 10 + 1 double stack, according to the retailer. Would I move to Standard then?

I'm not THAT familiar with 1911s, can you just get a single stack magazine for it and shoot Classic as well?

Cliff notes: I like this gun, what division would it put me in? :)

I think the fact that it has a rail, it doesn't qualify for classic.
As long as it fits the standard box with magazine inserted, you can shoot it in standard.
Otherwise, have fun in open I guess.

I looked at the Para website and there appear to be 3 flavors of Black Ops pistols. You are mixing information between 2 of them. The "1911 Black Ops" is an 8 round single stack 45. The "Black Ops 10.45" is a 10 round double stack 45. Finally, the "Black Ops 14.45" is a 14 round double stack 45.

... and none of them are legal in Classic division. A Classic gun must have no rail and be a single stack.

Those that can be had in Canada (ie: not the 14.45) are probably legal in Standard Division, but as has already been stated above: they must fit in the box (which they probably do).

AS much as I love my .45, it's not ideal anymore as calibre to use in standard division either. It's for one, to costly, even if reloading. 2nd, it's a bit more slow and more muzzle flip than a .40....
If you want to shoot in classic, go with either 9mm or .40...or stick with .45 if you really want a .45, but will have to be other model with no rail, and no extended dust cover.

i shoot a para 14.45 (10.45 lol) in standard and i love it. i prefer the steel frame guns to the plastic sti guns. and yes i have both, and i have tried really hard to like the edge.

theres nothing wrong with shooting .45 in standard and i dont care what anyone says it wont put you at a significant disadvantage to guys shooting .40. perhaps on paper .40 is more for the game, but when im going i honestly dont notice that the .45 takes any longer to get back on target.

price can be an issue, sometimes i think i am more focused on chasing my brass at matches than on shooting the stage.

at the end of the day its a game we play for fun. shoot whatever gun makes you happy.
