Im kinda late on the ball with this one but does anyone know if tour pistols are still available from para prdanance?

As well does para still make anything in Canada?

sorry m8 out of principle i will never buy norinco not that i think they are incapable I just in no way support china if I can help it. they trade with the west all while selling weapons to people like alquida and suport freedom crushing regimes.

A pile of steaming hot sh!t is more accurate then a para. At least with the pile of sh!t you know what you are getting....

Para makes pistols in the US - they are still available, there are better pistols out there for less money, like Norinco. Seriously.

While the ones I handled and shoot were way better than Norinco, I would not support the purchase of a current production Para 1911...

wrong tour but thanks! I am kinda shocked to see all the para hater's. Ive been checking American forums and have only been reading good things. I am having mixed opinions.

One of the real problems with Para is that their after sales service is virtually non-existant, if you're in the US, it's easy - if you're here it isn't. Furthermore, if you're here, they don't care.

I visit half a dozen gun site daily, Para's rating is about at the bottom of 1911. You didn't do your homework hard enough! but that is fine just buy one and try, at least half of the buyers didn't get a lemon. but mind you we only tell the true here.

Most people who own guns don't know the first thing about them. They don't really shoot, and if they shoot, they usually don't shoot well. And that doesn't even begin to address their lack of mechanical knowledge of their guns. And typically they exaggerate round count somewhere between "a lot" and "an absolutely pathological amount".

That doesn't even slow them down when it comes to telling you how "flawless" their guns are and how great the "fit and finish" is.

Para does not make consistent, reliable 1911s. There are so many poorly functioning Para Ordnance pistols out there it is just ridiculous. If you want a quality 1911 for middle-range money, start by looking at Colt and Springfield, or, if they interest you, you could consider an STI. Conceivably the S&W E-series, which had some early indications of being a quality piece, but which seems to have fallen prey to S&W's usual disorder of coming up with an awesome idea, then letting the accountants make all the decisions until they wreck it. Not that the E-series is wrecked, but the people I know who are heavily in to 1911s for duty use went from "hopeful" to "skeptical" about six or eight months back.

Anyway, that is pretty much a complete list of entry-level 1911s I would be prepared to count on without doing a lot of work. And yes, I am familiar with the other big names making 1911s. I haven't forgotten anyone. If I didn't mention them, it's because I wouldn't bet on them.

On the cheap I would get a Norinco or RIA. But I would expect to have to get someone with a lot of experience to tune the gun. Fortunately in my case that's me and I work pro bono for me whenever I need it.

For what it is worth,

I had an problem with the extractor on my tour pistol and was able to get great customer support from Para on the issue. Granted it was pointless to try and contact them via their website or normal customer service numbers. I posted about my issue on the 1911 forum and they have a rep on that site. He took care of everything. Including getting the paper work and permits sorted out to ship me the part directly here in Canada. Not having to go through their Canadian warranty people. I thought that was very good of them. The gun works flawlessly on factory ammo now. Has a few hiccups now and then with reloads and hollow points. I think once it is broke in a bit more, it will be fine.

That being said, in terms of a non-sentimental value 1911, there are much better options as other have mentioned.

Thanks to everyone for their opinion's.

And to Trigun im doing my research now i haven't bought any pistol as of yet and I never questioned anyones integrity on telling me the truth.

I am also looking at the smith pistols they seem very nice anymore opinion's welcome.

I have a Para Limited 16-40. Got it in 1997 for IPSC shooting. Never had any issues with the gun at all. Lots of rounds through it and it has always been accurate and reliable. Not sure what I am doing so different to have a gun that works so well when every else so far seems to not be as fortunate.

Just lucky ...... Probably not.
