Hello

Could anyone give me an opinion on the Para Ordnance 45 acp good or bad.....I'm looking into purchasing one, but don't know anything about the brand.

Thanks for the help!!

No personal experience but I've heard nothing but bad stuff about their QC and customer service... I'm sure those with first hand experience will chime in shortly.

My P16-40 has thousands of rounds through it and has gotten me through 13 years of IPSC shooting. I've had to replace the front sight (and I wanted to anyway) and I've broken exactly one extractor. Other than that, it runs and runs and runs.

Some folk have had problems. Some folk have not. Mine is an old pistol (1999) so I cannot comment on their current or more recent vintage pistols.

I believe when Para sold out to the US, everything went to sh!t. They were well ahead of their time and a shame it never stayed in Canada (Scarborough, Ont). They came out with the double stack M1911, the TTR rifle and the Double Action 1911.

I owned a para 1911 stainless, and it was a pig right out of the box.I found out from a gun smith that the feed ramp was not completely milled which was causeing my 50%+ failure rate..STAY AWAY from PARA..imo..

I have a p14 double stack that I won. The thing shoots great, very accurate, however it does jam once in a while. Apparently its because of the extractor, which once you change out, should run perfect! Thier customer service does leave a thing or two to be desired as well.

I bought a Para SSP in 2005 and it never misses a beat. I've never had a jam, no mag issues, nothing has ever loosened up on her. It just keeps on going strong and I wouldn't trade her in ever. 230 grain bull rounds is all she's ever been fed. Maybe I just got lucky.

Bought a GI Expert, shot multiple thousand rounds without any issues. The cheapest 1911 I bought, as reliable as my Springfield Trophy Match. A friend also bought the same gun and it's 100% reliable. So I guess it's a hit or miss.

In my experience , my P16-40 limited Yr 2000 model working very fine ,this also heard the same as other shooters mentioned , but my P13-45 limited Yr 2003 model , always had 1 or 2 jam out of 50 rounds factory loads , the extractor break at 2000 rds , ejector breaks at 3000 rounds , then I replaced with a solid stainless steel parts also I reduce the power factor of loads by 10%, the gun now can chew all bullets from 180 grs to 230 grs . To be fair , I also heard some shooters mentioned other named brands even more expensived ,out af the box cannot shoot , jam ...jam... jam.... It mostly depends on how lucky you are .

Ive got an older ltc that was still made in canada, it works great and shoots better than Im capable. The finish however left a bit to be desired though, was really starting to look beat even though its had a fairly easy life. So I bobtailed it and reblued it and couldnt be happier with it now. Very much hit or miss i guess.

Very interest how you bobtailed the gun , can you show pictures and discribed how to make this happened, regards.:bsFlag:

I was looking at a Para 45 ACP the limited one with the red fiber optic sight. I shot one up at our gun club and yes after the 5th round of factory quality Sellier & Bellot the thing jammed not only once but twice for me. The owner of the Para has had similar problems with it and he wishes he had never ever bought it.
