Looking at buying my first 1911 , I've got the opportunity to buy a Para GI Expert . I dont know to much about them . I've heard some negative things about Para pistols ie feeding , loading and jamming problems in some of there products. Any thoughts ??
Does anyone have some firsthand experience with the GI ?
Thanks

I have one that I bought new from Wolverine about 4 years ago. I was having problems with failure to feed for the first 2-300 rounds. After that It's been running extremely well. The first 1000 rounds was Winchester 230gr ammo. Now I'm using my own reloads and the gun is running smooth. When I first got it I seemed really "tight", just took awhile to break in.

Among all para guns, the GI seems to have better reviews. But still Para has huge qc problems, if you looking for a GI model, take a look at the STI GI instead or even Rock Island or Norinco also made Grovement model.

Appreciate everyones input , I was looking at the Norincos seems like for the dollar value theyre decent . I've meet a couple guys at the range in the passed who had Norincos and seemed very happy with them. If I remember correctly they'd done some upgrades to them and turned em into real good reliable shooters for cheap. Thats all I need ( want ) I've looked at sigs kimbers springfield etc etc beautiful pistols but I dont want to tie up to much cash on something thats going to spend more time in the safe than on the range .
I was looking at the Norinco double stacks they look good .
Trigun do you play with the Norincos much ?? Whats your take

Probably the worst thing about Para is not that they have issues (they do, poor finish, slide notch peening, out of spec rails) most manufacturers let a puppy slip now and then, it's that their warranty service positively sucks. Many people who buy new guns expect them to work or be fixed for free by the factory, Para appears to have an issue with this expectation - don't know why, seems reasonable enough. I can get a defective Norc fixed quicker, in Canada and probably cheaper, than I can get warranty service on a Para. I'm sure Dilligaf will be along to point out what he went through to get his gun fixed.

My goodness looks like Dillligaf's painful will never go away as long as people asking about Para's quality.

I have had 3 para pistols. Call in brand loyalty if you like. Most recently a 1911 LTC and I have never had a single issue assize from some ammo not headspacing but that was my ow fault as it was too long of a case to reload

I've handled many 1911s and I like the para personally. Todd jarrett can't be wrong. Anyone see the 1000 round challenge he did with a GI expert. They couldn't kill a GI expert even when they got it red hot

I have had one of the g i experts for a couple of years.5000+ rounds later, still no problems.Did the recommended 350 rd. Ball ammo break in.Heen using 200 gr. Swcs. For most of the rest.Once I had the length and crimp aspects of my SWC loads, they function smooth.Does not feed gold dot well though.I think for the price I paid new arond ($725 shipped), you could have one of many manufacturer's 1911 offerings for that price and lower. Would I buy it again? Yes, but I would be eyeballing a loaded Taurus 1911 or a Cz 97b for the same cash....
