I understand the concept of parallax, but what would be the consquence of shooting a rimfire with a variable that was designed for centrefire? I am thinking about a B&L 3000 3-9 on a CZ 452, most shots would be in the 50 -60 yd range. Thanks-karl

For a rimfire, AO (or parallex) is nice to have, but for a 3-9 scope, it is not needed. If all your shots are going to be 50 yards or more, then having an AO on a 3-9 scope (actually finding a 3-9 scope with AO is near impossible) is preatty much useless. Even if your shots are under 50 yards (say 25 yards) you can crank your scope down to about 5 or 6 power and everything should be clear :)

Proper grip & posture will basically eliminate parallax issues even on a fixed objective scope. I wouldn't worry about it, unless you're looking to do some high-level competitive shooting.

I disagree with the previous 3 posts. Paralex on most hunting scopes preset at 100-150 yds. At 25 yds you may see a difference if you shot a gun with AO. I have 4X12X40 AO scopes on all 3 of my brno/CZ and wouldn't have anything different. My partner likes leupold scopes so he sent his in and had the paralex changed to rimfire distance, he uses 3-9 and 4 power. I think they set it at 60 yds. Go to the range and see if someone will let you look through an AO scope and you'll see what I mean------Cowboy

Right, but if your eye is directly centered on the scope with a precise 90* alignment to the sight line (on both y & z axis), there will be no parallax regardless how the scope is set

Of course a centrefire scope will show parallax at rimfire distances. But if, as others already pointed out, you use good shooting technique and always place your head in the same position on the stock then the parallax is not an issue.

I've been using 3-9x centrefire scopes on my rimfires for years and have never had an issue. On my Valmet the rifle will print 5 shot groups in the 3's at 50 yds and I have made many hits on gophers at ranges from 3 feet to 200 yds.
