Hey guys,

being new at CGN i thought it'd be appropriate to listen more than i spoke therefore i want all of your opinions on a used rifle i'm planning to purchase.

It's a parker-Hale model 1200 in 22-250. Features a 22 inch bull-barrel and a 6-24x40 scope. I'm planning to punch paper and hopefully the odd ground hog and whatnot with it.

Accuracy and precision are my goals here.

Any thoughts?

I had a Parker Hale 1200 in 7mm Mag. std. weight barrel, it functioned well but was not as accurate as I would have liked, trigger was tough, the best feature was the Mauser(Santa Barbara I think) action.

Yeah well this rifle has less than a pound on the trigger so no walking around or even moving the rifle when it is loaded.

Love this rifle, will certainly check for throat erosion,

Thanks all

Simon

Sounds like an accident waiting to happen.....good luck...

I have owned 1/2 a dozen Parkerhales in diff calibers and all of them shot fine, the triggers are one of the nicest factory triggers i have seen.My 6mm remington Parkerhale 1000 would shoot 1/4'' groups all day long.

If accuracy and pecision are truely your goals, I would recommend selecting a more modern action. The parker hale actions do not have fast lock times (firing pin travel time) and they have generous clearance between the bolt body and receiver - both detrimental to extreme accuracy.

In the factory mass produced line, Remington 700, Savage and Sako (to name a few) would be a better choice. It might be helpful to know what budget you have and what ranges you are planning on shooting.

Out to 200 yards the 6ppc is king of the hill.

Hope this helps.
