I was Handed Down a Parker Hale 1200 Super clip from my dad. Its a 300 win mag. I may be getting into big game hunting as i just Deer and small game hunt at the moment. It probably has less than 30 round through it over the years. also has a bushnell BDC scope with see through rings for the iron sites. Any info on how these perform? i was thinking of getting a Tikka T3. but wondering if this will be a good shooter instead. hoping someone has one of these could give me some info as to how they perform. Thanks

I've never used one in .300 WM, but the Parker Hale will perform just fine. I'd much rather have one than a Tikka. Just don't lose the magazine. And get rid of the see-thru rings and get the scope mounted as low down as possible. It might be a bit more gun than you need for deer, but a .300 will kill anything on the continent.

Thanks for the info . I just refinished the stock. Noticed a small hair line crack, but cleaned and glued it closed seems ok . I was thinking of getting another stock for it . Is there any recommendations as to were to get a stock here in Canada that would fit?. I’ve noticed Boyd’s in the states have a drop in but not sure as to how the shipping or if it would even come this way

I've order boyds a couple of times, even for that exact gun. They are usually around 200$ by the time they show up at your door.

200 is not bad I priced on on there site but got a price around 320. Which did you get for yours? If you don’t mind me asking.

I ordered the thumbhile un finished (this was a few years ag9 so price might of went up) I would definatly recommend ordering the unfinished one because on the couple finished one ive ordered ive had to do some fitting and ended up refinishing anyways

The old PH stocks were really nice looking, if you can repair the stock, id keep it the way it is. I have one in 308 that i use for deer and bear. Great rifle!

See thru mounts are dangerous, and especially so on a 300Mag.

When using the iron sights (say on a moose near your tree stand) you have no idea how close your head is to the scope. Not only can it give you a bad thump and cut, but it can knock you out of the tree.

Do it!

Note: I try to learn from the experience of others. I have not personally been hit because of see-thru scope rings. because I don't use them.

A hunting guide told me about a fellow that used them, even though he was warned not to. The guide insisted his hunter use the safety belt in the tree stand.

Hunter knocked himself senseless with the scope (used iron sights) and came to hanging by the belt, under the tree stand.

I have a p/h 1200 safari in 30-06. Solid action and buttery smooth. Shoots better than any of my new production firearms. Notorious for splitting the stock at the wrist and between the mag well and trigger guard. If I recall mine is a k98 Mauser action.

Are the magazines hard to find? I think I have a shelf full of them somewhere brand new in the box.

I have one in 300wm and it is a great shooting rifle. Keep it. It is a nicer rifle and has less felt recoil than the Tikka compared to my hunting partner's. Put some good rings and glass on it and you will have a rifle that will last for a couple of lifetimes.

They are a Mauser action built by one of the most reputable British gun makers before they were all put out of business in the UK.

The bottom line is that it is built like a brickshythouse for safety and well put together for accuracy. They are also a pretty darn nice looking rifle with deep blue and nice walnut wood with the accent tip on the forend.

I still have my father's in 6mm Rem which was purchased new by him from his gun shop owner buddy back in the 80s. He used it as a varmint rifle and could shoot some pretty amazing groups with handloads.

300WinMag is a bit over power for deer but perhaps moose is in your future sometime?

The Magnum 1200C (.300WinMag/7mm Rem mags) caliber magazines are harder to find than the standard mags.

Good morning , I know it's a long shot, but do you still have the clip for the 300 winmag for the Parker Hale?

Alternatively, it is pretty easy to swap out the whole mag ("clip") system for a Mauser floor plate replacement.
