Well I found myself a little surprised this AM when I started tearing apart a PH 98 in 308 that I got from Albayo as a project gun. Sure enough, they built it on a Czech 24 from Brno. I have seen alot of action makers bandied about as to who PH used, but had not heard of them using any Brno actions.
The effort put into sporting it is actually more than I had expected in some ways, welded/tacked in guide rails in the mag, lock screw holes filled and the trigger guard then contoured and polished. On top of that grinding the reciever rings to remove all military markings on the top of them. Even squaring out the charger slot, which is a little wierd looking now. Alot of effort for a plain jane sporter in the 60s.

PH certainly didnt skimp when refurbishing weapons for use, there were budget guns available, I have onee, but most of the mausers and P14 actions were thoroughly rebuilt! Not having a wrist socket to give the game/history away helps!

Might be a little earlier then the 60s. PH used surplus actions for it's sporters during the period after the war and into the early 50s, I believe. If there is a thumb cut in the left receiver rail, this is probably one of those guns. I've owned a few of these over the years. - dan
Bearing in mind teh adoption date of the 308, I am gonna guess she was a little later, but pre mass sales into the US in the late 60s, when they were using Spanish made recievers.

:) Damn, adding two and two together and coming up with a cat-sized sniper rifle. LOL

308 came out in the 50s. If it actually is a military surplus receiver, it was made in the late 40s, early 50s, although it certainly could have been rebarreled at a later date. - dan
