I have a ph 1200 in 30.06. I was able to pick up a 243 barrel for it. My question is what else needs to be changed to be able to fire 243 after the barrel swap. I see that the 30.06 and 243 have the same size at the end of the case. Anyone done this swap? Thank you

If you want the sights or printing to line up the 243 barrel will probably have to be machined, indexed and chambered. The magazine will probably work fine... that is something you can check now.

Indexed to the action it was on... 98 actions are all different and require the barrel to be indexed to that action.

The mag body on the 243/308 mag vs the 270/30-06 mag are slightly different, although the 30-06 mag will most likely work.

I was thinking the mag would be longer on the 30-06 than the 243. Don't the shoulders of the cases ride just behind a ridge in the mag?
