Parker Hale Clip fix Question

My .308 Parker Hale has a problem with initially locking onto clip holder. It also does not always stay in place thus the bolt does not pick up the next shell after the first. I have bent springs in clip to put more pressure on the shells but still same issue. It is also hard to initially get it to catch the clip holder. Any ideas?

I have remodeled a couple of these rifles by using a floorplate etc. from a 98 Mauser. A bolt sleve with safety is available for Trade ex. This will solve all your problems and probably not much more $$ than a new mag, if you can find one.

was this will a fully loaded magazine and trying to insert into the gun with the bolt closed? try loading the magazine with the bolt open and it may jsut click in or reducing the number of rounds in the magazine by 1.

I have tried it all ways even when bolt open it does not want to pick up second cartridge.I have to put lots of pressure on bottom of the clip to get it to rise enough to pick it up.

Mine was the same way, the entire clip would sit to low and the bolt could ride over the cartridge without picking one up. The clip would actually rattle up and down in the action. I used my Bubba gunsmithing skills and welded a spot of metal onto the clip right on the "knob" that holds the clip in place (the clip release on the trigger guard engages it to hold it in place) Then I used a file to trim down the weld spot just enough so it would hold firm.

Thanks Republic, I figured I could do same but wanted to hear some alternatives the CGN's had.

How many mags do you have? If more than one, have you tried other mags?

Show a pic of the mag. Likely the knob where the mag is held is worn. As suggested above, you can weld and shape a bump to seat the mag better.

I have three mags two for my 270 and one for . the .308 of which I have problems with. I have used the .270 mag before as a test and it does pick them up and load no issues. The only thing I cannot do is use the .308 mag for the .270.I generally bring two rifles when I go hunting so I have a back up if any problems arise.

Uh, yes, I would actually be rather weary of interchanging mags back and forth in the field with those two.

The mags actually should be the same.

The mild annoyance would be having to check the ammo anytime you take the mag out for the night and putting the mag back in the morning when on a hunting trip.

PH mags are rising quite a bit in price. You might consider getting a regular hinged floor plate for one of the rifles.
