Anyone have any info about parker hale deluxe 30-06? A friend bought me one from the 70's for Christmas and I can't find any information about it online. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to post pictures on here. It's stamped made in Birmingham and has the number R-28393 on the side. Thanks in advance!

They were a decent rifle, mauser action. In my opinion many of the Parker Hale and BSA built sporters back to the 1950's are somewhat of sleepers in the used gun market. Many are sold for dirt cheap nowadays. Later years quality slipped but those from the 50's and 60's are excellent.

Had a couple of em and refurbished several. The only problem with them is you must load the shell in the magazine, you can't throw one in the chamber and close the bolt. (But) a knowledgeable gunsmith can fix that in a couple of minutes.

Doesn't happen on my husky 1640 or my m1917. Husky is a little stiff when doing it. It can't be done at all on a standard Mauser 98?

What exactly are you looking to know? I am about to start load developing with a super safari 3006.. stock was ugly as sin, had no recoil pad. Owner said he purchased in the 70s and only put a box through it. Have a pile of 165gr interlocks and partitions to feed it.

P14 and M1917 were designed and made to single feed, as well as to be controlled round feed from the magazine. The original Mauser never was - it's extractor nose will not "jump over" a rim of a chambered cartridge - but a gunsmith will need circa 15 seconds to grind a bevel on the face of a Mauser extractor - he will remove metal and make it weaker than original - but it will then single feed (push feed). Any original milsurp or military extractor will not, without that alteration. The husky 1640 was never a military action - Husqvarna did the grinding on those extractors, I think.

I think even the m1917 miltary as built fed from msg. I sold a guy a Churchill british sporter 17 . He called a few days later said something was wrong with it. Took it to the range and said it wouldn't lock up on a round. I said are you feeding from the mag? He said no, just dropped a round in chamber. Told him to load one in mag and he said feeds perfect now.
For military use I don't think so much the idea wasn't single round feeding but in combat good to know when you're empty.

the safari and safari delux are early model made on ex military action or fn Belgian made actions and thought to be the better than the later models which were made on the spanish m98 corona action. All the ones I have owned all have been very good rifles well made and zero issues

I have a CZ 98 “sporter” that would never reliably extract a fired round. I always had the military cleaning rod with me to drop down the barrel. I changed the extractor, no difference. I used it for years that way. I had it rechambered to 8mm-06, still the same. A few years ago, it decided to work properly. Never did figure out the issue, but it works okay now.

I've owned multiple PH's, both the ones built on the surplus military actions and the ones built on the Santa Barbara actions. Aside from the thumb cut, there are no differences of any importance that I can see. Both are good rifles. Still have three of them. - dan
