I finally came into a Parker Hale Detachable Box Magazine for a older Parker Hale that I am trying to refurbish. This magazine is for the 30-06 length family of cartridges; the rifle I am working with is chambered for 308 Winchester. Does anyone know whether Parker Hale blocked the front of the magazine (like the Isreali's did with their 7.62 NATO conversions), or did they block the back (like Winchester seems to do). I would really appreciate it if someone could post a picture of a top view of a Parker Hale 308 family detachable box magazine. I have been led to believe that the magazine "box" was the same length regardless of the chambering.

Not sure how much of a difference it makes performance wise...I have have some sporter rifle mags that are stamped 308/243 not blocked at all (they will fit and feed 30/06 cartridges) and I have some m86 mags that are blocked at the back.

No pictures, but you basically extend the feed ramp with a wee 1/2" thick piece of nylon or other plastic glued in. That's how it was done by the USN to M1 Rifles they converted to 7.62NATO. As mentioned, it maybe more trouble than it's worth.

308 Garands were fitted with a machined metal block the was held in by the bullet guide, no???

No difference in mag or follower length. Difference lies in the shape of the follower and the strengthening indents in the side of the mags. Further back for the intermediate cartridges I believe.
If I can, I'll post a pic of both.

I have an extra .308 mag laying around & I can try to get a side-by-side image or so beside a mag from my .30-06, but I've never posted images here before.
Then again, instead of fooling around adjusting/tuning a .30-06 mag for .308, have you considered trying to find some rare individual who happens to have a P-H .308 mag they don't need, who might be interested in trading you for a .30-06 one he does need...say for a P-H he has that started it's career as a .30-06, but now serves to make .338-06 holes in things...I might just know such a fellow?
