Recently, me and few of my gunner friends were talking about M85, I have seen some clones at EE, but they are not real M85. Me and my friends got interested about M85. So, could you share some pictures and stroies about this rifle? and How much $ it gonna be, if I plan to find one? Thank you gunners.

Those are unobtanium dude

I almost bought one in the 80s but at the time I was into the unrestricted AR15s and AKs so I didn't jump on it thinking I could just get one later.
Not long after the company stopped making them and they became scarce and very expensive.

The last one I saw for sale about 4 years ago the guy was asking something like $12,000 for it. Might have even been more.

I later had McMillan put a Rem 700 into their McHale stock, but it was nothing like the M85. McMilan did install the bipod stud so that was cool.

The original was based on a Mauser action but modified nicely with cool sights and great camo patterns.

I really regret not buying one while I could. It's one of the coolest bolt action rifles ever made, despite its short life.

Unless you're looking at from a collecting standpoint, it's really not worth it.

Functionally it's a solid top, stiffened Mauser 98 receiver with an extended front receiver ring which feeds from M14 mags.

The front receiver ring is extended by approx 1/2" to give you a true 1" ÷ of threaded receiver to support the barrel.

The quick detach scope mount to access the neat emergency sights was an archaic part of the RFQ.

It appears that the competition was won by (eventually) AI based on long term maintenance theory rather than range performance.

The gun has some very interesting design features, but at the end of the day, you're still stuck with Mauser 98 lock time, and fitted extractors.
