Hi all,

I just picked up a Parker Hale 1200c with P-H roll-off mounts holding a Bushnell Scopechief VI in place.
I have to admit, I have never seen mounts like that before therefore I don't know what to make I them. Has anyone used them? How well do they hold a zero? What exactly was the point of it anyway, I use the iron sights until the need for a long range shot and then "roll" the scope into place?

Thanks

My cousin has a set on a 760 of his. I dont know that he very often flips them out of the way, but zero always seems to hold.

I'd say you've got it backwards. I'd think most people who have them rarely if ever actually move the scope out of the way and use the irons.

I have two pre-64s, a 270 and a 30-06 both wearing Weaver tip-off mounts and they hold zero very well, actually better than some of my other rifles with Warne or Leupold QD rings...

If they are installed correctly they should work okay...

If the mounts seem to tighten and go loose when the scope is repeatably rolled back and forth, they won't hold zero.

Thanks for the replies. Im still trying to understand what the objective was with those mounts. When would you flip them off versus keeping them on, or vice versa?

The purpose is to quickly switch to your iron sights if your scope gets fogged or anything makes you doubt it is working properly.

Someone has said it, they were designed for a quick switch to iron sights, if something, usually fogging, occured with the scope.
Also, Weaver designed these mounts in the '50s, when hunters were very doubtful about a fragile looking scope on their rifle. Thus, the quick detachable was the ticket for selling scopes to iron sighted hunters, leary about those new fangled scopes.
