Parker Hale Ugartechea 20 gauge

I've been looking around for a 20 gauge Ugartechea or AyA and found a Parker Hale 640E in the states. They want $1000 for it, so after exporting to Canada it would cost me around $1250. I'd say the gun is in about 90% condition, with a few marks on the barrels. They don't matter to me too much as this will be a field gun. Would this be considered a good deal in Canada? I've never seen one come up for sale here, but I don't watch the prices as much as some of you might, so I'd appreciate the input.

It is top dollar in my opinion so I'd want a top condition gun. But if that's what you want and can't find one in Canada, it doesn't leave you much choice. I'd really try to make sure the gun is in the condition the seller says it is, and that's not just cosmetics.
 
Here are the photos I was sent. It is original condition, functions as new, IC/Mod chokes.

I would be comfortable if I could get it for $1000 all said and done, but I hate lowballing. It was a PM in response to a thread looking for basically this exact gun on another forum. Would an offer of $800 be rude?









 
Your offer would not be rude. In fact, that is about all I personally would offer. Hard to say for sure, but from the pics the stock looks to may have been refinished but that may just be the pic. Guess you would have to take the seller's word that it is original. Is there any pitting in the bores or dents in the barrels? Is the action tight and on face? From the pic the opening lever does not look right of centre but then that may not be an indicator of anything as they were not to right of center on every gun. The thing is, how well will this gun fit you? It would be too bad to go to the trouble of getting it here and not have it fit you, especially a SxS. To get full pleasure out of a SxS, it has to fit you properly.
 
I've never shouldered an Uggie, but based on the stock dimensions it should fit similarly to my BSS sporter which has the stock reduced to 13 5/8. Worst case if it doesn't fit me, I'll sell it on here for what I paid. Not enough of these guns in Canada.

Not enough of these guns in Canada doesn't mean you will get your mney back. In fact, quite the opposite may be true. The market is a lot smaller in Canada for older double barrels and US prices mean nothing here. In most cases, US prices are higher for older guns then they are here. And this is not a top line gun by any stretch. However, it appears your mind is made up about purchasing it so hopefully it meets your expectations.
 
My mind is not made up by any means. In fact, thinking about it I think I'd prefer to wait and get a something higher grade along the lines of an AyA 4/53 down the road, as I've shot one and found it to fit nicely, I just don't want to miss out on a deal.
I may pass on this one in the hopes that I can check out some more Spanish guns if I run into anyone with one in the states. I can pass along the contact if anyone wants.

I think that would be a wiser choice, especially if you already shouldered a 4/53. And don't worry, at the $1000.00 asking price you didn't miss out on a deal.
 
If that gun has ejectors, I have the identical gun. Only mine is in near factory condition (owned it since new around 1991?). Sorry, won't ever sell. But back to your gun. No, that screw in the fore end wood absolutely doesn't belong there. I don't know what the hell it's doing there. Yes, trigger guard looks to have not been fully seated so it may have been apart recently for some reason.

As a 20 gauge gun, it probably weighs just under 6 lbs and is balanced very nicely. A beautiful grouse gun.
