I am parkerizing my Norc 1911 and I was going to leave the barrel as is, but I was wondering how difficult it is to parkerize a barrel? How do i plug the chamber and bore? Would cork work?

Thanks

Cork or rubber plugs will work fine. I've heard that you should fill the barrel with water to reduce the chance of popping a cork from heated air expansion.
Never done it, parkerized a fair amount and no popped corks. Max temp. that you work with is 185F.

iv used fiber cork and the rubber style cork. both work well. i add about half-3/4 full of water

oh and just in case you didn't know , only steel will park, not stainless

i tried to parkerize my barrel and messed it up. didn't plug the holes properly :(

i think that's it for that barrel, lucky i had another one laying around. it was an expensive lesson. next time i won't bother parkerizing the barrel, i'll just polish it, makes for a nice smooth action.

good link wolf :)

oh ya, one more very importing thing - DO NOT GET ANY OIL ON THE PARTS BEFORE PARKERIZING!!

I sandblasted all the parts, wore rubber gloves and was very careful with the parts. I screwed myself by placing the slide on my gun mat where i handle all my firearms (cleaning). It did have some oil on there :(

it's good that i'm learning on a beater 1911 :)
